The Ponchatoula Jaycees are excited to announce the return of two of our signature annual events in 2022 – the Strawberry Strut and the Jambalaya Cookoff! While life has taken us for a ride the past two years, the Jaycees are prepared to step back into planning for these two events to ensure they are community successes once again. Both events will be held on the same date this year, on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Each event will separately return to its normal Spring schedule in 2023.
39th Annual Strawberry Strut
The Strawberry Strut offers a 1 mile Fun run, and both a 5k and a 10K race. The 1 mile Fun run begins at 7:30am and the 5k and 10k races each begin at 8:00am. The course will begin and end at the Ponchatoula Junior High (315 E. Oak Str, Ponchatoula, LA). Custom Finisher Medals will be awarded to all runners. Medals will be given to the top three overall male and female runners in the 5k and 1st place in each of the following age groups: 17& under, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60& over.
22nd Annual Harry McKneely-Milton Melancon Memorial Jambalaya Cook-off
This event was started by the Ponchatoula Jaycees in 1998. The event was named in honor of two deceased gentlemen who contributed to the Ponchatoula community during their lives. The jambalaya cook-off is held annually with the purpose of not only raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, but to also engage the community to take part in a local outdoor event suitable for the entire family. Specifically we strive to obtain 10-20 cooking teams and raise a minimum of $2,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In the past, the cookoff has also hosted a chicken drop raffle, a holey board tournament, a car show, and live entertainment.
Additional details about each of these events including how and when to register, will be announced late Summer/early Fall 2022. We hope you will consider coming out on Saturday, October 1, 2022, where regardless of age, you are sure to have a great time!
